Young Lawyers Offered Legal Aid Training
The KBA Young Lawyers Division and Kentucky's Legal Aid Programs are collaborating to offer special training to young lawyers interested in learning the basics of practice areas for low-income clients.
Program scheduling includes Feb. 14 in Covington; Feb. 21 in Louisville; March 14 in Lexington; March 21 in Bowling Green; and March 28 in Prestonsburg. Each topic presentation will offer attendees specific guidance about court procedures, available forms, common issues, and practice tips in the areas of evictions, divorce and domestic violence orders, criminal record expungements and essential life planning. Locally, referrals would come from Kentucky Legal Aid.
The program is free to any Youong Lawyers Division member who agrees to later take three cases from the local legal aid program. The attorney may choose the practice area. The legal aid program staff will provide mentoring and support to lawyers on these cases. There is a $20 registration fee for all non-YLD members and anyone who is unable to volunteer their time.
Each program has been accredited in Kentucky for 6.00 CLE credits. Lunch will be provided for all attendees. Registration forms and additional information are available on the YLD website at http://www.kybar.org/741. If you have any questions, please contact Lori Alvey at lalvey@kybar.org or (502) 564-3795.
