2018 Law Day Ceremony
The 2018 Law Day celebration in Bowling Green was held on Wednesday, May 16 at Capitol Arts on the city square. Lauren Marley, President of the Bowling Green-Warren County Bar Association, presided over the event.
Former Kentucky Supreme Court Justice John Roach, who serves on the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission, gave an excellent presentation about this year's theme, separation of powers.
The bar association's annual awards, an integral part of Law Day, were announced and presented.
Brad Coffman, who died on Jan. 17 at age 67, was posthumously named recipient of the William H. Natcher Award. Coffman engaged in the private practice of law in Bowling Green his entire 40-year career, handling both criminal and civil cases with professional zeal. Coffman was known to believe in the people he worked for, and he believed everyone was entitled to a vigorous defense.
The Gwyneth B. Davis Award for outstanding public service was presented to Bob Young, managing partner of English Lucas Priest and Owsley. Among his other accomplishments, Young Young recently helped organize and support the Legal Diversity Pipeline Project to attract a broader diversity of students to the fields of law and law enforcement.
Darren Mexic, a partner with the law firm of Debra L. Broz, was honored with Pro Bono Publico Award for representing numerous indigent clients with care and compassion. It was the second time the bar has recognized Mexic for his pro bono work; he also won the Pro Bono Publico Award in 2009.
